This April marks the 48th anniversary of Earth Month. Each year Aveda, one of our favorite salon partners, coordinates a huge Earth Month program. The beauty industry is often known as an industry with a high carbon footprint. Product companies and salons like us are working together to reduce our impact on the planet.
In the past, we have sold Aveda’s Earth Month candles. All proceeds go to an Earth Month organization of their choice.
This year we decided to take it a step further. We are raising funds and increasing awareness of a local group. We are also improving recycling participation in our own salon.
From a list of Aveda approved organizations, we have chosen to support the Great Lakes Alliance.
Great Lakes Alliance was formed to protect the Great Lakes in 1970. Its mission is to protect the Great Lakes from invasive species, to ban microbeads, to clean up toxic algae blooms, and to clean up beaches.
We have chosen to donate to Great Lakes Alliance since it is a local organization helping better our own communities. We believe in keeping things local, and we love what Great Lakes Alliance is doing!
Check out their website to get more information on how they are helping our beautiful bodies of water and the land that surrounds it! www.greatlakes.org
To raise funds, we are having ‘jean days’ every Friday in April. Any employee who chooses to participate will donate $5 to Great Lakes Alliance to wear their jeans. Some of us have purchased T-Shirts to support the organization as well. We are asking the help of our clients by donating a dollar or two when you stop in. We have buttons and stickers you can take with you to show support and spread awareness.
We are also setting up a bake sale on April 20th and 21st to support this worthy cause.
To celebrate Earth Month at Brown & DeLine every day, our stylists Elaina and Danielle have committed to enhancing our in house recycling program. They plan to streamline recycling in our backroom by researching what we can and cannot recycle, by incorporating new easy to use recycle bins, and by placing infographics on each bin showing what goes where.
We are excited to participate in this program.
Happy Earth Month!
