On behalf of the crew who went to New Orleans this year from Brown and Deline, Doc Hendley, founder of Wine to Water, was the most motivating speaker of the Serious Business 2013 conference. At the Serious Business Conference Hendley told his story about how he got his foundation Wine to Water started. He has made various trips around the world to spread the word and aid in the water epidemic in many third world countries.
Wine to Water has provided clean water to people in Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, Cambodia, Peru and Haiti. His humanitarian efforts to bring clean water to the world are heroic. About 1 billion people lack access to clean water and 2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation. There are just over 7 billion people in the world today. That is a large percentage of the world’s population without clean water. I know, this is all big news to me too.
His story is fascinating and is told in his book Wine to Water: A Bartenders Quest to bring clean water to the world. In his journey he created relationships with the locals that will last a lifetime. Oddly similar to the relationships I have made with many clients sitting in my chair. If one man can stumble upon an issue like this and be extremely proactive about it, why can’t I? Or why can’t my Brown and Deline Team?
His story has motivated me to think of what could I do to make the world a better place? I have a wonderful network of people and a plethora of resources to help others myself, especially through Brown and Deline. So when you are done reading this, I want you to think of what you could do to make the world a better place. Just remember, thinking about it won’t do much help; action is severely needed.
