My team believes in giving back to the community. Every month we pick a charity to help.
Last month we raised money for our client, Vara. She is 10 years old and was recently diagnosed with a second time with a rare childhood cancer. We hosted a jeans day (each team member donates $5 to wear jeans), accepted client donations and sold bracelets – handmade by Vara – that said “She believed she could so she did”. The teamed was on hand to offer support and encouragement as her favorite stylist shaved her head.
Our salon is also a volunteer wig bank for the American Cancer Society. Patients are referred to us by the ACS. My stylists volunteer their time for wig fittings. Meeting these women during the darkest time of their treatment is life changing. Having hair and looking like themselves is just as important as beating the cancer.
Since I have started meeting with these patients, I have started creating awareness about cold cap therapy. This therapy helps patients to keep their hair during chemotherapy treatments. It was just approved by the FDA in the last year.
We are committed to creating more awareness and availability for these women.
What I have observed with these brave women is the minute you lose your hair, they have publicly become a ‘sick’ person. They no longer have the choice to keep their illness private.
Our team is here for these clients during this journey that they didn’t sign up for.
