Thank you to Debra Neill Baker, Carol Augusto, and Stacey Soble for putting on an amazing conference and award ceremony again this year.
Kristy and I headed to New Orleans to represent Brown & DeLine at this fantastic event.
The conference started on January 15th at the Orpheum Theater with an incredible line up of speakers. Charles Duhigg, a Pulitzer Prize winner, opened the event. He spoke of innovation and focus and motivating teams. His closing statement made a big impression on me – “Strong willpower is the greatest thing you can teach someone”.
The line-up of speakers included K Anders Ericsson, PhD; Kimberly Snyder, author; Gayle Fulbright and David Linde, salon owners. We also heard from Frank and Linda Westerbeke, owners of Gadabout Salon. Erica Adam and Caleb Maddix shared their stories with us as well. The closing speaker was Vishen Lakhiani. Vishen owns a company called Mind Valley. He spoke to the fact that we spend 70% of our waking hours at work. A great work culture makes a significant difference in how enjoyable the time is. His focus on happiness, growth, and abundance makes his company one of the top companies to work for.
Vishen closed the conference with tons of enthusiasm – and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. He divided the 2000 person audience into 2 sides. He instructed us that he would motion to each side when it was our turn to stand and sing. By the end of the exercise the audience was hysterical! We were all singing, laughing, standing up, sitting down. He was definitely memorable.
Later that night, we attended the Salon Today Top 200 award ceremony. This year Brown & DeLine was honored in the categories of customer service, inventory management and philanthropy.
I love to spend time at this event with our fellow industry icons. The people attending represent the top 200 salons in the nation. Their passion and dedication is always inspiring.
Looking forward to next year!
